About us
The Spark.
Kickin Back started with a moment of contrast that Kieran could not shake. As a youth soccer coach in the United States, he watched families pile up perfectly good gear at the end of every season, jerseys worn once, cleats barely broken in, bags overflowing with extras.
At the same time, through their travels and conversations abroad, he and Donna saw communities where kids shared a single threadbare ball and played barefoot because it was all they had.
That gap between excess and need became their eureka moment. They realized that redistributing what was already in abundance here could open the door to play, confidence, and opportunity elsewhere.
From that insight, Kickin Back was born, built on the belief that access to sport should never depend on circumstance.
Building the Foundation
What began as a simple idea quickly grew into a commitment to doing things the right way. Kieran and Donna started by listening to coaches, teachers, and community leaders who understood what their kids needed most. Instead of just sending boxes of gear, they worked to build relationships, strengthen local programs, and support the people already creating space for children to thrive.
Over time, Kickin Back became more than a donation effort. It became a partnership-driven movement focused on dignity, access, and the belief that every child deserves the chance to step onto a field and feel like they belong there.
